You wouldn't think that this would be all that difficult. I am not sure what I am doing here. I don't like to spend a lot of time just writing unless I have something to say. That being said, we went to the Elkhart County 4-H Fair today. We traditionally go the first free Sunday of the fair. We go for the church service, which today was really good. Since I don't know how to spell Brenneman, I hesitate to say that they are the ones who did the service. I want to say it is a Mennonite church but that isn't correct either.
The music was contemporary and I really enjoyed that. The sermon was also good but not really spectacular. I prefer our Methodist Church. Our minister is pretty liberal, and I am surprised that there aren't complaints from some of our older members. He is such a loving, caring, spiritual guy that is always there for those who are dealing with crisis's, deaths, illness, etc, that is probably why. I like that he is liberal. I like that he believes that everyone has a right to their own religion and that we don't corner the market on God.
That all being said. You will probably notice that I am a bit ADHD.
We had the pancakes and sausage for the all that you can eat pancake breakfast. That does not include all the sausage that you can eat. You can get more sausage, but you will have to pay for it. I only ate the three pancakes, and one sausage. It was really good, but I am not much for breakfast eating. My husband loves breakfast. I am a lunch and dinner person myself. This brings me to the beef tips and potatoes. We had them later. I shouldn't have been hungry but that never stops me.
I was not too happy with the beef tips and red potatoes, with mushrooms and onions, this year. It seemed especially oily. I love the flavor but I really didn't care for all of the added fat. We didn't eat anything else, which I am sure you are already thinking, What? You didn't eat anything else? Wasn't that enough? On to what else that we did. We didn't just eat. We went to the commercial buildings, the Arts building and saw the winners in all of the divisions. I am mainly interested in the arts and crafts. I judged the 40-H fair art entries for a couple of years. I would have chosen some other winners myself. But then they didn't ask me. Each judge has their own tastes. I am sure that it is good to have different judges every several years.
Again I digress.
We visited the animal buildings. I cringe when I think that they will be sent to market. This is a kinder way of saying that they will be turned into food. I hate that. God and I will have a discussion about that someday if I make it into heaven. I love animals and admit that I am a carnivore. I am sorry. I am an O blood type. We require beef and some other meats for "optimum health." I can't imagine raising a calf, or lamb, or any other animal and then have to sell it at the fair. It would break my heart. Not just to have to let it go but to know that it was going to be slaughtered.
I am glad that the day is over. My back and feet were killing me and it was very hot. At least it wasn't raining, storming, or exceptionally humid. I put my time in. We saw friends and spoke with them. We are back home and I am done with the fair for the year. I know that to many people the fair is the highlight of their summer, I am not one of them. I don't like rides anymore. I don't like the expense, and I don't like the heat. Bah humbug! If I didn't go though, I would feel like I had missed out on something. It was a good fair, I wish that I would have been able to get a kiss from the seals but I would have had to pay $10 to the greedy little buggers and get a photo with them. One can only have so many photos with seals in them anyway.
